Field Math Examples

These worked examples apply basic geometry to find conduit area and box volume, then use those values to calculate a fill percentage.

  1. Step 1

    A conduit has an internal diameter of 0.957 in. Find its cross-sectional area.

    A = π × (d ÷ 2)² = π × (0.957 ÷ 2)² ≈ 0.72 in²

  2. Step 2

    A box measures 4 in long, 2.125 in wide, and 1.5 in deep. Find its volume.

    V = L × W × D = 4 × 2.125 × 1.5 = 12.75 in³

  3. Step 3

    A conduit with 0.72 in² of total area has 0.21 in² occupied. Find the fill percentage.

    Fill % = (Occupied Area ÷ Total Area) × 100 = (0.21 ÷ 0.72) × 100 ≈ 29.17%
